Model Theatre

Another uni project, all my work. A 1:25 scale theatre made from black foamboard. 1:25 scale sets designed for the Grimm fairytale Ashputtel, set in World War 2 British countryside. This includes an indoor fireplace scene, outside the house and outside during a street party or dance. The props include a chair and table made from coffee sticks, a tree made from wire and modelling clay and some logs made from rolled up paper, all of which were painted using acrylics. I also made a model of a person, to give a sense of scale, out of wire and modelling clay and again painted with acrylics. I have included the bible sheets for the costumes of Ashputtel. I also made bunting out of small pieces of fabric folded over thread.

The idea of this module was to take one of the Grimm fairytales and change its genre, hence why Ashputtel is suddenly set in Britain during World War 2!

Experiments

Just a few experiments with transfer printing, tie-dying and fake blood. All of these went towards my journal for a hand-in.

Aunt Fanny: The Legend of a Shirt

Our project was to create and age the shirt from the poem Aunt Fanny: The Legend of a Shirt http://www.exclassics.com/ingold/ing37.htm. Most of the shirt was sewn together by machine, but any parts which could be seen from the outside were hand sewn. It was made and dyed in accordance with the descriptions in the poem. The shirt was arranged in the photos to demonstrate the part in the poem when the shirt is drying, before it was set on fire.

Film Set

Definitely a group effort.
A two room enclosed set, based on 'The Death of Ivan Iliych' by Tolstoy and with the theme of psychological horror in mind. We were each given an item to design, mine was the bookcase. We then divided up the items to be made in small groups. In a group of three we made the windows, upholstered the loveseat, put up the wallpaper, painted it, designed the stencils and then stencilled the walls.
Below are the results.
